Having a baby is one of the most important things you will ever do.

It is such a special time in your life. I consider it an honour and a privilege to be able to look after you on this exciting journey.

I stay fresh and excited about what I do as an obstetrician as I am repeatedly amazed by the miracle of childbirth. Also I try to focus on your pregnancy from your perspective –your joy and the excitement and pleasure it will bring to you and your husband/partner. Knowing I have contributed to you having a pleasurable and successful pregnancy, and wonderful childbirth experience and celebrating with you and your husband/partner over the birth of your new baby gives me real joy and a great buzz.

I value the relationship I will have with you during this special time. I encourage you to become a Facebook friend so I can get to know you better. You can also check out my family on Facebook. I hope you will send me “proud parent” photos of you and your new baby that I can include in my photo collection, which is also on Facebook. Not only do these photos give me great joy as I look at them and reflect such a special occasion but also other patients (pregnant and not pregnant) love seeing them.

Dr Gary Sykes - Pregnancy Care

“I have cared for over 10,000 pregnant women over the years and so have considerable experience and skill in pregnancy and childbirth care, which I hope is reassuring for you.”

Good communication is an essential aspect of good pregnancy care.

If you have a concern or question I want to know. You can contact me by phone on (02) 9680 3004, but also by email and messages on Facebook, and through other social networking sites. Also please advise me of special requests or fears. I want to your pregnancy and childbirth experience to be a rewarding and enjoyable event.

I have the most amazing ultrasound machine and will use it to scan your baby at each visit. The scan detail is incredible. It will be wonderful for you to see your baby in 3D as well as 2D and to watch it grown and develop at each visit. With 4D you can watch your baby move. You will really enjoy that. You will not have any expenses for my office scans. They are free. As well we will give you a special USB flash drive at no charge so you can store your baby ultrasound scan photos taken at your pregnancy visits.

I have wonderful secretarial staff that will support me with your care. When choosing staff, I look for those who were mothers with young children who can also provide you with friendliness, warmth, good communication and empathy.

In this section are lots of specific details about the various aspects of care you will receive with me. I hope you find them helpful. If you have questions not covered in this section about your care they please ask and we will be pleased to answer.
