Pubic symphysis pain

Why do I have pubic pain?

Pubic symphysis joint pain can be a very significant problem as pregnancy advances. It  is due to relaxin and progesterone hormones causing softening of pubic symphysis ligaments.

This allows the pelvis to become a lot more ‘elastic’ so that the pelvic bones have the ability to stretch and open more easily during birth.

What can be done about it?

It is aggravated by joint movement and engagement of the foetal head. velcro belt

While you can’t stop your baby’s head becoming engaged, try to limit joint movement. What can help is:

  • Try to avoid lifting toddlers
  • A Velcro belt for support.

While it will go after you have had your baby, it is likely to recur with next pregnancy.
