For many women having a baby is the fulfilment of a lifelong dream 
When a little girl is playing with her dolls, she is starting to dream of becoming a mummy. She is typically very keen to help her mummy with the care of younger siblings. She is typically keen to cuddle her sibling and other babies.
While some women fall pregnant easily and while others have huge challenges conceiving or remaining pregnant the gaol is the same – to be able to have a baby
A woman typically falls in love with her baby from the time her pregnancy is confirmed. It gives her so much joy when she is first aware of her baby moving inside her. She typically enjoys touching her pregnant abdomen and is amazed about the life growing inside her.
She is able to cope with adverse symptoms of pregnancy, should they occur, because she is focussed on the goal of having a baby.
The joy she and her partner experience with the birth of their baby is immense. It is so wonderful, as her obstetrician, to be able to share in this joy with her.
She may have had a very challenging pregnancy and childbirth journey and yet she will conceive again because she wants to have another baby. Such stoicism is so admirable.
On a personal note, I have a wonderful occupation. The joy I experience in supporting women on this very special life journey is enormous. The bond I build with so many fabulous patients because of their pregnancy journeys is phenomenal.
