Postnatal Visit

You will need to phone my office to arrange your postnatal visit while you are still in hospital or as soon as possible after your discharge.

I should see you for your postnatal visit about six weeks after your delivery date.

At your postnatal visit your medical recovery status following your delivery will be checked. As well any medical issues will be addressed and personalised contraception advice will be given. There will be a pelvic examination and a Pap smear will be taken if this is due.

At this visit I will want to discuss with you any special considerations of your recent pregnancy, labour or childbirth. This is especially with consideration of next time. Your input is requested. If you have any questions or concerns about any aspect of your care, from me, other doctors or the hospital staff please let us know.

Also please let us know any special compliment (such as about particular midwife who looked after you) and we will be very pleased to pass it on.

Postnatal Visits

If you have any concerns after your discharge from hospital but before you postnatal visit then please contact me.

Your baby will need to be checked by your paediatrician about the same time. Your baby will not be examined by me at your postnatal visit. Nevertheless I encourage you to bring your new baby with you. My staff  and I would love to see your new baby so we can share in your special celebration.

Please also bring photos that we can include in our proud parent collection. Alternatively you can email them to garysykes@obstetricexcellence.com.au
