We are often asked about ‘what happens when’ with pregnancy care. With that question on mind I have put together the table below as a guide.

8 WeeksFirst visit with me for most patients
I will give you a referral for routine pregnancy tests, NIPT Screening (if requested) and booking information for a hospital.
8-12 WeeksRoutine blood tests done
NIPT Screening for Down Syndrome done (done at 10 weeks on)
Book into hospital
19-20 WeeksBaby’s morphology ultrasound scan
20 WeeksPregnancy management fee paid
26-28 WeeksRoutine pregnancy tests including for diabetes
28-32 WeeksBest time for whooping cough vaccination done through your GP
39 WeeksInternal examination to check if your cervix is getting ready.

Antenatal visit frequency

We are also asked about the frequency of antenatal visits. In the table below is summarised the usual frequency of visits. There will be variations if there are pregnancy complications that warrant more frequent visits throughout the pregnancy. As well an extra visit may be needed if there is a pregnancy development or concern between routine visits (such as bleeding).

  • Saturday mornings 9.30am to 12.00 midday*

*Saturday morning appointments are not available for initial antenatal visit.
